My idea for the final project will be more on the arts side of China’s history. I was thinking of looking into Chinese pigmentation and what different materials they used to create different colors for painting or for makeup. I would like to research Chinese cosmetics specifically and the development of this makeup from the late dynasties working up to today. I did find an article on JSTOR that talks about the early history of cosmetics in China that I find very interesting.
I want to research this topic because I am a Chemistry major with a minor in Studio Art and I want to pursue a career in possibly the cosmetic industry but more along the lines of developing paint and inks. This topic is very similar to what I want to do as a career so it would be fun to research cosmetics and pigmentation from China’s history.
